The focus of this photograph was line and light. The intersecting lines created by both the stairs and the rungs on the stair well create shadow. The three different intersecting variants of line, white rungs, black edges of the stairs and tonal lines created by the shadow give three interesting, contrasting focuses to the photograph. The light is lightest at the top of the stairs and darkest towards the bottom of the stairs, however the difference isn't large because the light source comes from the bottom and top of the stair well.
1.2.Although the photograph is of the same stairwell as the first and the focus is the same, this is a different photograph because the subject I was interested in wasn't intersecting line but parallel line. The rungs of the stair well run parallel to one another at points, but some rungs don't because of the angle they are at. An unnatural light is shining from in front of the stair well and a shadow of the rungs is printed on the stairs. The black bannister runs in parallel with the base of the rungs of the stairwell however the bannister is black and the base is white, giving another edge of contrast to the photograph. The black parallel lines on the stairs separate the colour and bring out the orange while the white rungs push the orange back. Since there is hardly any shadow or light tone on the floor behind the white rungs, the orange floor doesn't come out and seems to be attached to the white rungs.

3.The shadow formed in this photograph is very interesting. It is unclear where the light source comes from but upon further inspection, because of the shadow on the right side of the rungs of the bannister I can tell that the light source is coming from the left. Because of its dim quality, the light source is unnatural. The line is contrasting because of the close together, thin lines of the vent mixing with the wider, vertical and diagonal lines on the bannister. The line created by the shadow runs in parallel with the rungs on the bannister and contrast because of tone.

4.This task was based around thinking about what to include in every corner of the photograph. A reason for this is so that the photo doesn't seem repetitive and so every corner is interesting and stimulating. The main decisions I took was to include the ground of the bottom floor below, the white space above, the empty wall on the right and contrasting to this, a small part of the next floor up on the left side of the photograph. The light focus was only subtle but was centred around the right corner of the stairwell. It is interesting how the tone has gently degraded from light to dark, from the top left to the bottom right.
